Willis Horton Obituary

Willis Montgomery Horton, age 87 of the Western Prong Community in Whiteville, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center in Whiteville, with family by his side.  

Willis was born on December 14, 1933 in Columbus County. He was the son of the late Arthur Boyce and Atwood Lee Sellers Horton, and the widower of Frances Benton Horton, who preceded in him in 2013. He was also preceded in death by siblings: Arthur Boyce Horton, Jr., Alice Bell, baby brother and infant sister, Betty Horton. 

Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Western Prong Baptist Church Cemetery. 

Willis was a dedicated member of Western Prong Baptist Church, where he was active in various roles, including serving as a Deacon. He was employed for over 32 years as a District Manager with Brunswick Electric Corporation, until his retirement. Upon retiring from Brunswick Electric, Willis began working part-time with Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn, having served Columbus County faithfully as a funeral attendant since 1986; he was also a member of North Whiteville Fire Department, having joined in 1980. For 36 years, Willis was faithful in his coordination of the Lake Side Ministries in Lake Waccamaw, thru the Columbus County Baptist Association.  

Willis leaves behind his daughter, Cynthia Dianne Horton Elliott and her husband, Markus, of Whiteville; a son, Willis Ted Horton of Wilmington; two grandchildren: Teresa Elliott Kalfin and Renee Elliott Lucas; seven great-grandchildren, Daulton Lucas, Elliott Lucas, Elizabeth Kalfin, Michael Kalfin, Johnson Chanse, Jordyn Johnson, and Summer Johnson. He also leaves behind his half-sister, Geonita Ward of Wilmington

Memorials may be made to Baptist Children's Home in Thomasville, NC.
