Walton Bradley Dozier

Walton Bradley Dozier, age 66 of Whiteville, entered the Heavenly Kingdom to be with the Angels and "My Lord" as he frequently, affectionally and reverently referred to "Him". After a lengthy illness, Walton passed away in his sleep at home in Whiteville on Monday, June 11, 2019. At age ten, Walton moved to Whiteville from his birthplace, Mullins, SC, when his father accepted a position at Todd Furniture Company. His mother pursued her career as a Registered Nurse until her untimely death when Walton was 16. Walton and his Dad formed an inseparable bond and enjoyed wonderful times together fishing, hunting and even double dating. Mr. Pearlies death in the year 2000 left a devastated son; this void adversely affected Walton for the rest of his live. Walton graduated from Whiteville High School and shortly thereafter, joined the Army and volunteered to go to Vietnam. His wish to fight was not granted as he had health issues and was, therefore, chosen to be an Aid in the Generals Quarters in Panama. He enjoyed his duties in this position, the Columbian Coffee and while there, continued his enthusiasm for sports by coaching a girls softball team. Before leaving the country that he learned to love, he shipped 99 pounds of Columbian Coffee to 410 W. Williamson Street! His Dad fondly commented "that boy drinks more coffee than anybody Ive ever seen!" Upon returning to the States, his rank as a medic led to his placement at Womack Army Hospital in Newborn Nursey and Delivery. There, he especially derived pleasure from parting and combing the babies hair. He was also jolted emotionally when he was asked to carry a newborn to the morgue. These missions weighed heavily on his heart as he had lost nine brothers as infants. Walton was a very intelligent and gifted individual. He was artistic, an outstanding athlete, an avid reader and was also always willing to express his strong faith in God. His skills in the pastimes he enjoyed were recognized by those who knew him well. He excelled at pool, poker, riflery, bowling and baseball. Walton was employed in various categories of work over his lifetime. His first job was picking cotton in South Carolina. As he grew older, he sold boiled peanuts, had a paper route and worked at a service station pumping gas. He told a little fib about his age and went to work at the Nuclear Plant. Afterwards, he shoveled rocks on a rail road, did steel work, construction, managed a bar, and worked in a mill in Dillon, SC, where he met friends with whom he has maintained a close relationship for many years. Because of his love of interaction with people, his final vocation in insurance sales was his favorite. He was preceded in death by his parents, Zetha Foley Dozier and Pearlie Bett Dozier, in addition to his nine brothers. Left to cherish his memory is his companion of 24 years, Martha Stout and numerous cousins and dear friends. Funeral Services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2019 at Worthington Memorial Chapel, with Interment following in the Whiteville Memorial Cemetery.
