Walter James Ellis Obituary

Walter James Ellis, 75, of the Hinson’s Crossroads Community, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his loved ones.


Walter was the son of the late Walter Selma Ellis and Carrie Williams Ellis. In addition, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Marsha Corrine Ellis; siblings, JD Ellis, Wilton Ellis, Woodrow Ellis, and Graham Ellis.


Surviving family includes his wife, Wanda Pope Ellis of the home; children, Kelton Batten (Loretta), Carrie Ellis Lanehart, Gary Dean McPherson (Lynn), Douglas Walters, III (Gracie); 16 Grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, Marie Ellis Merrit, and Dianne Smith


Walter served his country in the North Carolina National Guard, for 27 years, until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion and a member of Porter Swamp Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.


A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025 at 11:00 am at Worthington Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Moore and Pastor Roger Coffey  officiating. Burial will follow in the Meares Cemetery, Fair Bluff.


Visitation will be from 10:00-10:454 a.m. prior to the service on Friday.
