Mr. Stoney Joe Powell, age 62 of Cerro Gordo died Monday, July 06, 2009 at the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center in Whiteville. Final rites will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Worthington Funeral Home with Reverend Tim Moore and Reverend Jeff Stocks officiating. Interment will follow in the Gowan Cemetery Cerro Gordo. Mr. Powell was a veteran serving in the US Army and retired from Dupont Leland plant in 2001 after 32 years of service. He was the son of the late Clarence and China Strickland Powell. Surviving family include his wife, Diane Wilson Powell of the home; a son, Clint Dwayne Powell of Cerro Gordo; sisters, Carrie Blackwell of Cerro Gordo, Fannie Blackwell of Cerro Gordo, Kitty Graves of Cerro Gordo, Exlee Norris of Nichols, SC; brothers, Wilbur Powell and Dock Powell both of Cerro Gordo. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn. No service information has been added.
