Mr. Rudolph Braxton Smith, age 77 of Whiteville died Saturday, January 30, 2010 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Worthington Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Western Prong Baptist Church Cemetery, Whiteville. He was the son of the late Braxton and Lillie Viola Ikner Smith and was preceded in death by eight siblings, Edward Smith, Ethell Smith, Ezra Smith, Lucky Smith, Ila Mae Tyner, Ruby S. Pate, Lucille Garrell, Betty Smith and Margie Smith. Rudolph was a retired carpenter. He was a loving husband and father leaving to cherish his memory, wife, Darnell Hough Smith of the home; sons, Derrick Allen Smith and wife, Cheryl of Whiteville and Greg James Smith of Whiteville; daughters, Beverly Diane Bass and her husband, Tim and Debbie Lynn Sellers and husband, Bill all of Whiteville; step-daughter, Sonya Day of Whiteville; step-son, Allen Day of Whiteville; a sister-in-law, Becky Smith of Whiteville; brothers, Odell Smith and his wife, Mary Alice of Whiteville and Jack Smith and his wife, Betty of Whiteville; sisters, Ruth S. Nance of Chadbourn and Linda S. Ward and husband, Jimmy of Chadbourn; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Monday at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn. No service information has been added.
