It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of a truly wonderful man, Robert Jeremy (RJ) Banfield. RJ passed peacefully on June 1st in the comfort of his own home.
He was born on March 28, 1936 to Doris J. And Thomas Banfield in Elmira, NY.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carolyn Morphy Banfield, stepsons and daughter, Lance Bowe (Cherie), Melanie Bowe, and DJ Bowe, grandchildren Jeffery Tyler Davenport, Amber Bowe Carroll (Carter), Christopher Bowe, and Gunner Decio Bowe; brother Mark J. (Mary) Banfield, step-brother Robert (Patricia) Cresswell, sister-in-law Catherine (Richard) Morphy Kurz, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, step-father Robert Cresswell, mother, father and mother in law, Mildred Browne and Edwin Tyler Morphy, his brother, Thomas J. (Caroline) Banfield, his step daughter, Michelle Davenport, brother-in-laws, Charles (Denise) Morphy and Richard (Catherine) Kurz.
RJ graduated from Edison High School, Elmira Heights, NY (1954), SUNY Albany, NY (1959).
He was dedicated to education and was a beloved teacher known to many as “Mr. B”. His employment years were affiliated with Clifton Springs, NY central school, Midlakes High School, Phelps, NY, Finger Lakes Community College, Canandaigua, NY, and Southeastern Community College, Whiteville, NC. He directed numerous school plays, organized many senior class trips to Washington, DC , acted as senior class advisor and activities coordinator in addition to his duties as Business Department Chairperson.
He was president of the Business Teacher’s Association of NYS, Clifton Springs Rotary Club, Parish Council, St. Felix Church, Clifton Springs, NY, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Whiteville, NC.
