Mr. Pleasant M. Campbell, age 88 of Clarkton died Saturday April 4, 2009 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center, Whiteville. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Pierce Chapel AME Zion Church, Clarkton with Reverend Gregory Spaulding and Reverend Harris Branch officiating. Interment will follow in the Mitchell Field Cemetery, Clarkton. He was the son of the late Evil and Annie Madeline Spaulding Campbell and preceded in death by three sons, Pleasant Campbell, Jr., Nathan Fred Campbell, and Levi Campbell. He is survived by his wife, Naomi C. Campbell of the home; three sons, James Felton Campbell, Thurman Woodrow Campbell both of Council, and Hubert Clifton Campbell of Lake Waccamaw; three daughters, Lela N. Jacobs of Lake Waccamaw, Rosa C. Robinson of Clarkton, and Barbara C. Strong of Greensboro; a brother, Wendell Campbell of Clarkton; 18 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn. No service information has been added.
