Mrs. Penny Bartley Guthrie, 84, of Weddington, N.C. went to be with the Lord on March 16, 2010. Penny was born on Feb. 16, 1926 in Evergreen, N.C. to Archie Belton Bartley and Hettie Reardon Bartley. She was one of eight children. She is survived by a son, Charles Walton and his wife Laurie, of Weddington, N.C. and a daughter, Penny Tenoschok and her husband Dr. Michael Tenoschok of Kennesaw, Ga. She was preceded in death by a son, John Timms, husband of Josie Timms of Cheltenham, Md. She was also preceded in death by husbands, Joe B. Timms of Gastonia, N.C. and William E. Guthrie of Bessemer City, N.C. Penny had nine grandchildren: Jeremy Walton, Amanda Walton, Allison Walton, Samuel Walton, Michael Tenoschok, Elizabeth Tenoschok, Sarah Harris, Megan Timms, and Emily Timms. She also had four great-grandchildren: Brian Harris, William Harris, Katelynn Harris, and David Harris. She is survived by her sister, Pattie Bartley Pierce of Portsmouth, Va. and her brother, Tom Bartley of Goldsboro, N.C. Mrs. Guthrie was a very active member of First Baptist Church, Weddington. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 18 at First Baptist Church, Weddington. A graveside service will be held in Chadbourn, N.C. at 11a.m. Friday, March 19 at Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery with a graveside visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, Weddington building fund, 348 Providence Road South, Waxhaw, NC 28173-8310.
