Mr. Olen Lenwood Puckett, age 73 of Whiteville died Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter in Whiteville. Funeral services will be held 4:00 pm Friday at Cypress Creek Original Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Ray Cribb and Reverend Leon Simmons officiating. Interment will follow in the Hosea Simmons Cemetery, Whiteville. Worthington Funeral Home is handling the arrangements He was the son of the late John Floyd and Cora Elizabeth Grice Puckett. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Fowler; seven siblings, Quinnon Puckett, James Thomas Puckett, Charles Puckett, Earlene Hewett, Bertha Jeanerette, Thaila Lanehart, and Nona Ward. Mr. Puckett was a veteran serving in the Navy. He is survived by his wife, Ramona Ann Piver Puckett of the home; daughter, Denise P. Cartrette of Whiteville; son, John L. Puckett of Whiteville; sister, Lillie Mae Powell of Green Sea, SC; a brother, James Lanehart of Whiteville; 5 grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm Thursday at Cypress Creek Original Free Will Baptist Church, 1388 Ward Town Road, Whiteville, NC 28472.
