Monte Levonne Herring

Monte Levonne Herring age 67 of Cerro Gordo, entered into the joys of the Lord on Monday, September 20, 2021, at McLeod Loris Hospital, following a brief illness. 

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 23, 2021, in the Cerro Gordo Baptist Church Sanctuary with Reverend George Strickland and Reverend Tim Moore officiating.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. on Thursday at the church, prior to the funeral service.

A private burial will take place on Friday, September 24, 2021, at Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. 

Monte was born on September 24, 1953 to the late Levonne Herring and Peggy Jane Hammond Herring. 

He served on the County Board of Education for almost 16 years and worked with Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation until his retirement 3 years ago.  Monte was also very instrumental in establishing the Little League program in Cerro Gordo.  

He was a faithful member of Cerro Gordo Baptist Church, where he served in several areas throughout the years.

He is survived by his wife, Jennie Sue Britt Herring of the home; two children, Monte Chadwick Herring and his wife, Heather of Cerro Gordo and Cortney Herring Jones and her husband, Jason of Cerro Gordo; a brother, Nicky R. Herring and his wife, Tullie of Evergreen; grandchildren, Carson Jones, Annalea Jones, Elizabeth Herring and Audrey Herring.
