It is with great sorrow that we inform you that Martha Ann Roberts Prevatte passed away in Melbourne, FL, on Friday, May 29, 2026, age 91.
She survived her husband, Reverend L. Thad Prevatte, Jr., her daughter, Pamela Prevatte Land, and son-in-law, Gene Craig Land, her parents, Philip Austin Roberts and Frances Bull Roberts, and her grandparents James A. (Papa) Bull, Sr., Sunnie (Emily) Stroud Bull, William McCree Roberts and Pamelia Ann McNeil Roberts.
She is survived by her son, Lawrence T. Prevatte III (wife Susan Fick Prevatte), grandson Jonathan Prevatte (wife Amanda Prevatte), great-granddaughter Elizabeth Prevatte, her granddaughter, Nicole Land Mathias (husband Kevin Mathias), great-grandson, Henry Craig Mathias, great-granddaughter Madelyn Pamela Mathias, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Martha Ann lived in Lumberton, NC, Gastonia, NC, Red Springs, NC, Raleigh, NC, Wilson, NC, Pensacola, FL, Quantico, VA, Beaufort, SC, Youngsville, NC, Smith's Crossroads (South Hill), VA, Rich Square, NC, Chadbourn, NC, Hickory, NC, White Stone, VA, Whiteville, NC, Durham, NC, Cary, NC, Indialantic, FL, St. Petersburg, FL, and Melbourne, FL.
She attended Lumberton High School, was a graduate of Gastonia High School and Meredith College, and was married to a US Marine Corps Officer/Baptist minister/prison chaplain. She touched the lives of many as a lifeguard and councilor at Camp Burgess Glen, a homemaker, a high school and elementary school math teacher, a college bookstore manager, a furniture industry worker, and a tax preparer.
Gathering begins at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn, NC (405 E Strawberry Blvd/Business Highway 74), at 10:00 AM, followed by burial at Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery, at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 20, 2026.
