Magalene Russ Walker

Magalene "Maggie" Russ Walker, age 85 of Chadbourn, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at home, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 25, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Oliver Randolph and Chellie Mae Dyson Russ. Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by siblings, Roy Russ, Robert E. Russ, Minnie R. Mercer, Irene R. Meares and two infant brothers. Affectionately known as Maggie, she was a hard worker throughout her entire life. She worked endlessly alongside her husband farming for many years. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend and especially Grandma to all her grandchildren. Maggie was a lifelong member of China Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Her children, grandchildren, and friends will remember her quick wit, delicious cooking and beautifully crafted creations such as afghans and tablecloths. Up until her illness, Maggie was also a devoted caregiver to her husband, George. Her work ethic, love and legacy will be carried on through her children and grandchildren. To cherish her memory, Mrs. Walker leaves behind her beloved husband of 69 years, George Walker, Jr.; daughters, Kay Walker Hayes (James), of Cerro Gordo, Rhonda Walker (Donald), of Ocean Isle Beach; a son, Greg Walker (Ellen), of Chadbourn; 8 Grandchildren, 17 Great-grandchildren, 6 Great-great-grandchildren, and several special nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at China Grove Missionary Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service in the church; Reverend Thomas Fairfax will officiate the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to thank everyone for all of their love, support, prayers and any act of kindness shown to them during their Mothers illness. We would especially like to thank Mrs. Betty Graham, Christie Bowen, Crystal Simmons, Jovana Bellamy and all the staff of Liberty Homecare and Hospice for their attentive and compassionate care during her final days.
