Mr. Loraine Page Benton, Jr., age 82 of Evergreen died Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Worthington Funeral Home with Dr. Reverend Milford Oxendine officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen United Methodist Church Cemetery. He was the son of the late Margaret Grissom and Loraine Page Benton, Sr. and was also preceded in death by a sister, Janie B. Inman. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army and was a civil engineer with the NC Department of Environmental Management serving as assistant director until his retirement in 1987 after 25 years. He also served as town manager of Goldsboro from 1957 until 1962. He is survived by his wife, Jane Fulghum Benton of the home; a son, L. Page Benton, III of Garner; two brothers, Bill Benton of Orrum and Jim Benton of Roxboro; two sisters, Ann B. Kolantis of Virginia Beach, Va. and Margaret B. Phillips of Ayden; one granddaughter. Memorials may be made to Evergreen United Methodist Church, PO Box 334, Evergreen, NC 28438 or to Community Home Care and Hospice, 16 Whites Crossing, Whiteville, NC 28472. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn. No service information has been added.
