Lawrence Otis Collins Obituary
Mr. Lawrence Otis Collins, age 91 of Chadbourn died Tuesday at Columbus Regional Healthcare System in Whiteville. Final rites will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Chadbourn Baptist Church with Reverend Sean Roberds and Reverend C.F. McDowell officiating. Interment will follow in Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. He was a native of Columbus County and the son of the late Duncan C. and Bessie Floyd Collins. Mr. Collins was a veteran of the US Army serving in WWII. He was employed by Peacock Funeral Home in Chadbourn from 1940-1954 and later served as director of Columbus County Public Housing until his retirement. He was a former member of the Chadbourn Rotary Club, Chadbourn Civitan Club and served as secretary/treasurer of the Chadbourn Fire and Rescue for 29 years. Mr. Collins was a member of Chadbourn Masonic Lodge #607 for more than 60 years and a Shriner. He is survived by his wife, Ella Marie Hodgin Collins of the home; two daughters, Martha C. McKinnon of Aberdeen and Elle C. Russell of Chadbourn; a sister, Frances C. Dawson of Bellingham, Washington; six grandsons, Daniel Russell, Christopher Russell, Will McKinnon, David McKinnon, Mathew Russell, and Evan McKinnon. Memorials may be made to Chadbourn Baptist Church, 504 Howard Street, Chadbourn, NC 28431, Baptist Childrens Home of North Carolina, Post Office Box 338, Thomasville, NC 27361-0338 or to a favorite charity. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn. No service information has been added.
