Kim Phillips Kowal, age 60 of the Crusoe Island community of Whiteville went to be with her Lord on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Lifecare Center in Whiteville. Final rites will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Worthington Funeral Home with Ervin Etheridge officiating. Interment will follow in the Long Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn. She was the daughter of the late Claudette Fields Blackwell and Broughton Blackwell. She is survived by her husband, Ralph "Curley" Long, Jr. of the home; sons, George Joseph Kowal, III of the home and Shannon Long; a daughter, Candy D. Herring (Danny) of Whiteville; step-son, Shannon Long of White Oak; five siblings, Teddy Phillips of Florida, Sammy Phillips of Evergreen, Mark Phillips of Washington, DC, William Blackwell of Evergreen and Polly Ann Sarvis of Nakina; four grandchildren, Mason, Candace, Wynn and Kayla; two great-grandchildren, Jace and Masie.
