Johnsie Mae Strickland, 89, formerly of Cerro Gordo, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 24, 2026 in the Lenior Assisted Living in Pink Hill, NC.

Johnsie was born on October 26, 1936, in Columbus County, daughter of the late Stanford Strickland and Josie H. Strickland.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Barbara Strickland of Loris; nephews, Michael Rose and Reggie Rose.

Johnsie is predeceased by her sister, Joyce Rose and husband, Walter C. Rose; brother, Rev. Edwin L. Strickland; nephew, Matthew Edwin Strickland. 

Johnsie was a lifelong member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Cerro Gordo. She loved her family and her Lord; She was a very loving lady, who was loved by many that knew her, especially the staff at Lenoir Assisted Living and Community Hospice Care of Kinston.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at Worthington Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. 

Visitation will be from 1:00-1:45 p.m. prior to the service on Wednesday.
