Darek was born on July 30, 1982, son of Danny Thomas Owens and Donna Beth Causey Owens.

The surviving family includes siblings, Danny Thomas Owens, II of Evergreen, Cooper Lee Davis of Fayetteville; grandmother, Janice Elizabeth Babson of Evergreen.
