James Allen Stephens

James Allen Stephens, age 82 of Whiteville, entered into the presence of his Lord on Monday, January 4, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his children.

James was born on September 14, 1938, to the late Otto Stephens and Tressie Elliott Stephens. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Virginia Green Stephens and his sister, Doris S. Penny.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at Worthington Funeral Home, with Rev. Merle Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Smyrna Baptist Church Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held from 1:00-1:45, prior to the service. 

James was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church, where he was active in various roles. He honorably served his country during the Vietnam War and later served as an Army recruiter in Eastern North Carolina for a total of 23 years in service, retiring in March of 1979.

Survivors include his children, James Anthony Stephens and wife, Kelly, of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Mark Otto Stephens and wife, Deborah, of Charlotte, and Wendy S. Sasser and husband, Dean, of Whiteville; grandchildren: Christopher Stephens, Brandon Stephens (Tina), Cameron Stephens, Alex Sasser (Aimee), Janna Elizabeth Sasser, and Ashton Stephens; three great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn Stephens, Allyanna Stephens, and Decon Stephens.
