Hugh “Tommy” Thomas McPherson, Sr.

Hugh Thomas “Tommy” McPherson, Sr. age 76, of the Western Prong Community of Clarkton, went to be with his Savior and Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, August 18, 2023, while in the Lower Cape Fear Lifecare Center in Whiteville.  

Tommy was born on July 25, 1947, in Columbus County, son of the late Isaac McPherson and Flaudia Marie Cartrette McPherson. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by six siblings, Lynwood McPherson, Donna Kay McPherson, Vicki McPherson, Bobby McPherson, Sharon Cartrette, and Charles McPherson.

He honorable served his county in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.

Funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at Chadbourn Pentecostal Holiness Church, with Pastor Donald Conway officiating. Burial will follow in the Western Prong Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:00-2:45 p.m. prior to the service, at the church. 

Survivors include his wife, Irma Joyce Cartrette McPherson of the home; son, Hugh Thomas McPherson, II (Renee) of Whiteville; a daughter, Jennifer McPherson Hatcher (James) of Whiteville; siblings, Joanne Simmons of Whiteville and Cindy Fowler (Greg) of Tabor City; grandchildren, Brandon Hacher, Kevin Hatcher, Hunter McPherson, Jeremy Hatcher, Hannah McPherson, Josh McPherson, Courtney Engle and Douglas Engle; and three, Great-grandchildren, Kennedy McPherson, Maddox Hatcher and Emma Leigh Hatcher.
