Hilda Grey (Fipps) Bullard

Hilda Grey Fipps Bullard, age 89 of Chadbourn, began walking the streets of gold on Monday, June 20, 2022, while in the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Angel House in Whiteville, NC.

Hilda was born on September 2, 1932, daughter of the late Robert Sidney Fipps and Beulah Mercer Fipps. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Royce Bullard and her siblings, Mona Faye Fipps Baldwin and Bobbie Fipps Nance.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 24, 2022, from Chadbourn Baptist Church, with Dr. David Vess officiating. Interment will follow in the Columbus Memorial Park.  

The family will receive friends from 1:30 pm until 2:45 pm prior to the service on Friday, at the church.  

Hilda held a 40-year career in the banking industry. She served as branch manager at  Peoples Savings, Pioneer Savings as Vice-President, First Citizens as an assistant vice-president and after retiring she worked part-time with Waccamaw Bank in Chadbourn. Hilda was a vital part of the town of Chadbourn; she served as recording secretary for the Garden Club, Chadbourn Revitalization (Depot Museum) as treasurer, Columbus County ECA Treasure. Hilda was also the longest continuous member of Chadbourn Baptist Church. Mrs. Bullard also received the "Above and Beyond" award from the Columbus County ECA where she served as treasurer.  In 2019, Hilda was recognized for her 25 plus years of service as the recording secretary for the NC Strawberry Festival in Chadbourn. 

Survivors include her daughters: Vicki Gail Davis (Dale) of Calabash, Julie Bullard Norby (Robert Brent) of Orlando, FL, and Hilda Joy Bullard of Whiteville; six grandchildren: Max James Ostermair, Kelly Ostermair Thomas (Tim), Emily Ostermair (Marty Finkelmeier), Alexandra “Alex” Norby Courtin (Christopher), Julian Lucas “Luke” Norby, Elizabeth "Lizzy" Victoria Norby Nakashima (Justyn); four great-grandchildren: Penelope Faye Thomas, Marlowe Grey Thomas, Lukas Finkelmeier, and Alden Lane Courtin.
