Henry Dudley Mitchell, Jr.

Henry Dudley Mitchell, Jr. age 73 of the St. James Community of Lake Waccamaw slipped into the arms of our merciful God to rest at Columbus Regional Healthcare System in Whiteville, NC. He was born on May 15, 1944 to the late Lilly Maybell Graham Mitchell and Henry D. Mitchell, Sr. At an early age, while attending St. James Missionary Baptist Church he accepted Christ. As a dedicated member, he served several years as the Brotherhood Chairperson. He also served on the cemetery committee and as a volunteer for the St. James Volunteer Fire Department. He was employed at Daniels Construction Company at the Leland Dupont site as a fab supervisor until his retirement. In 1964, he honorably served his country in the US Army in the Vietnam War. Final rites will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2018 at St. James Missionary Baptist Church with the Reverend Curt Locklear, Pastor and the Reverend Graylen Michell, Eulogist. Interment will follow in the St. James Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Worthington Home in Chadbourn. To cherish his memories, he leaves his wife of 49 years, Gloria Spaulding Mitchell of the home; from this union two sons were born, Bryant Mitchell of Lake Waccamaw and Mark Mitchell of Wilmington; siblings, John Frank Mitchell and his wife, Mary Jean, Annie Maybell Jacobs and her late husband Wilbert, Maggie M. Jacobs and her husband, Barty; three grandchildren, Austin C. Mitchell, Cheyenne K. Mitchell and Christopher Ayden Mitchell; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
