Mr. Guilford Garland Strickland, Age 83 of Whiteville died Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Columbus Regional Healthcare System in Whiteville. He was the son of the late Peter and Rebecca Strickland and preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Sue Strickland, seven siblings, Howard Strickland, Pete Strickland, Rozier Strickland, Homer Strickland, Herman Strickland, Jennie Barnes, and Elsie Worley. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 17, 2009 at the Boswell-Strickland Family Cemetery, Whiteville with Reverend Roger Coffey and Pastor J.B. Butler, Jr. officiating. He is survived by his wife, Betty Boswell Strickland of the home; daughter, Wanda S. Butler of Whiteville; two sons, Harold Dean Strickland of Leland and William George Strickland of Whiteville; sister, Sudie Buffkin of Whiteville; brother, Carl Collins of Cerro Gordo; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Worthington Funeral home in Chadbourn. No service information has been added.
