Mrs. Mentle Grace Nance McCumbee Barnhill, age 88 of Chadbourn died Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Lifecare Center in Whiteville. She was the daughter of the late Doctor Don and Ora Nance and the widow of J.C. McCumbee and Dock Barnhill. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Eloise M. Miller. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Macedonia Baptist Church with Reverend Vernon Williamson and Reverend Rick Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. She is survived by two sons, Richard Bud McCumbee and wife, Elizabeth of Chadbourn and Jerry McCumbee and wife, Judy of Iron Station; a sister, Ellen N. Pait of Whiteville; step-sons, Wilbur Barnhill of Chadbourn, Wayne Barnhill of Chadbourn and Edward Barnhill of Whiteville; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and several step-grand and step great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday at Worthington Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice LifeCare Center, 206 Warrior Trail, Whiteville, NC 28472.
