George Marvin Edwards Obituary
Mr. George Marvin Edwards, age 71 of Chadbourn died Monday, February 22, 2010 at Columbus Regional Healthcare System in Whiteville. He was the son of the late Otto Franklin and Lucille Flowers Edwards and was preceded in death by a brother, Philip F. Edwards. Upon his graduation from the Medical College of South Carolina he entered the Army in 1963 serving his country until 1969 obtaining the rank of Captain. During his military service he was based at Muenchweiler Annex, 2d General Hospital in Germany where he was executive officer and pharmacist at the facility. After his completion of military service Mr. Edwards opened Edwards Pharmacy in Bladenboro as owner and pharmacist for the next 30 years until his retirement. Mr. Edwards was a member of Chadbourn Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He also was a member of the Southeastern Oratorio Society where he served as president and was also a member of the Bladen County Development Corporation. He was a licensed pilot and enjoyed flying his Cessna for many years. Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Chadbourn Baptist Church with Reverend Sean Roberds and Dr. Reverend Robert C. Bankhead officiating. Interment followed in Columbus Memorial Park, Whiteville. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Sharyn Russell Edwards of the home; a brother, Dr. Ellison Edwards of Charlotte. Pallbearers were Brian Edwards, Jerry Edwards, Roscoe Edwards, Bobby Hester, George McRae, and Pete Smith. Memorials may be made to the Southeastern Community College Foundation, Post Office Box 151, Whiteville, NC 28472. No service information has been added.
