Geneva Jill Smith Godwin, age 81 of the Beaverdam Community of Chadbourn died Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Preston Cam and Cornelius Bright Smith and also proceeded in death by a daughter, Jeanine Godwin Wright; six brothers, Gable Garland Penny Smith, Albert Leland Dick Smith, Homer Smith, Horace McDuffie Jack Smith, James Howard Smith, and William Oscar Bill Smith. Final rites will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday at Beaverdam Original Free Will Baptist Church with the Reverend William J. Godwin, Reverend Buddy Seay and Reverend Buster Benton officiating. Interment will follow in the Mercer Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Shelton Godwin of the home; sons, Ronald G. Godwin, Danny Godwin and Delane Sam Godwin all of Chadbourn; sisters, Roberta S. Godwin of Chadbourn and Annie Jane Smith Gurganius of Jacksonville; a brother, Preston Cam Bud Smith of New Port News, VA; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn. No service information has been added.
