Everett "Bubby" Vernon Strickland, age 98 of the Cherry Grove Community in Cerro Gordo, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at the Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Whiteville, NC, with family by his side.
Bubby, as he was lovingly known, was born on March 5, 1923, in Columbus County, to the late Alice and Vollie Vance Strickland. He was preceded in death by eight siblings, Von Strickland, Valerie Strickland, Velton Strickland, George Strickland, Robert "Happy" Strickland, Susie S. Campany, Beamon Strickland and Prudie S. Waddell.
Final rites will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, June 24, 2021 at the Worthington Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Rusty Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Cherry Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at Worthington Funeral Home.
At a young age, Bubby left the Cherry Grove Community and worked several jobs. After some time, Bubby decided to return to his roots, back in Cherry Grove. He owned and operated a beauty salon, of which he faithfully worked for 52 years. Bubby was an exceptional caretaker. Most of all, he loved his Lord and Savior; prayer was always a priority. If anyone had a need, Bubby was ready and willing to assist in any way possible.
One of Bubby’s greatest joys was having family and friends stop by the homeplace to chat about days gone by; upon your arrival, you would often find him reading the Bible. A tradition in the Strickland family, Bubby attended Cherry Grove Baptist Church in Cerro Gordo for many years. He had a deep love for music, which was displayed through his talents on the piano and organ. Although many hearts are heavy, there is a peace in knowing that Bubby lived a wonderful life of 98 years, and he is now reunited with his beloved family in Heaven.
Mr. Strickland is survived by many nieces and nephews.
