Mrs. Ethel Lee Willoughby Pharr Kester, age 78 of Whiteville died Monday, November 30, 2009 at Shoreland Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Whiteville. Final rites will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Worthington Funeral Home with Reverend Willie Allen and Reverend Robert Rattz officiating. Interment will follow in Porter Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery, Cerro Gordo. She was the daughter of the late Lattie and Mollie Deaver Willoughby and the widow of Malcolm L. Pharr, Sr. and Rex Kester. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ester Willoughby Bullard Ford. She was the manager of Woods 5 & 10 Store in Chadbourn for more than 40 years. She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Pharr Horne of Whiteville; a son, Malcolm L. Pharr, Jr. of Wilmington; two step-sons, John Kester and Joseph Kester both of Rockingham; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn. No service information has been added.
