Dr. Louis "Pete" Edwin Baucom

Dr. Louis Edwin "Pete" Baucom of New London and longtime resident of Fairmont, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, October 6, 2023, in New London, NC; He lived a wonderful life of 98 years. 

Dr. Baucom was born on December 27, 1924, in Big Lick, NC, son of the late John Lee Baucom and Myrtle Esther Hahan Baucom. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann Baucom and his daughter, Lori Jo Baucom.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Fairmont First Baptist Church, with Pastor Michael Plank and Pastor Carter McNeese officiating. Burial will follow in the Floyd Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 10:00-10:50 prior to the service on Friday, at the church. 

Upon graduation from high school, Dr. Baucom enter the United States Navy and honorably served his country during World War, II.  Immediately after his military service, Pete entered NC State University and received his degree in Electrical Engineering.  Later,  Pete received his Doctorate in Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN and practiced optometry until his retirement in 1995. Dr. Baucom was a member of Fairmont First Baptist Church. 

Survivors include a loving daughter, Leanne B. Barlau (Sam) of Littleton, CO; son, Martin Louis Baucom of Albemarle, NC; four grandchildren: Amie Plank (Michael), Marty Baucom, Jackson Barlau, Josh Barlau, and one great-grandchild, Halley Plank.
