Dorris Middleton Suggs

Dorris Middleton Suggs, age 90 of Chadbourn passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 7, 2021, at Columbus Regional Healthcare System in Whiteville. 

Dorris, was born on October 8, 1931, to the late Henry Olen Suggs and Bertha Leonora Morris Suggs; he was also preceded in death by five siblings, Leo Suggs, Reba S. Batten, Alene S. Hammond, Dolphus Suggs and Alverta S. Stover; a son-in- law, Johnny Tolley; and was also preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Boyd Grainger Suggs.

He was a veteran serving in the Army/National Guard during the Korean War, retiring with over 20 years of service.  Dorris was a member of the Chadbourn Baptist Church where he held many positions over the years.

After the Korean War, Dorris returned home to Columbus County to work in the automotive industry for over 50 years. 

Final rites will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Chadbourn Baptist Church with Dr. David Vess and Reverend David Crumpler officiating.  Interment will follow in Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 pm prior to the service, at Chadbourn Baptist Church. 

He is survived by a daughter, Vickie Suggs Tolley of Whiteville and a son, William M. Suggs (Faye) of Whiteville and their mother, Billie Dutton of Whiteville; two step-sons, Barry Grainger and Larry Grainger; four grandchildren, Laci Hardin (Justin), Teddy Williams (Elizabeth), Haley Tolley (Grayson), Breanne Tolley; great-grandchildren, Renli Greigh Bullock, Jennings Andalyn Hardin, Fisher Everette Hardin, Georgia Grey Hardin and June Elise Hardin; and his fur baby, Sookie.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Chadbourn Baptist Church, 504 N. Howard Street, Chadbourn, NC 28431.
