Mrs. Dorothy Dot White Meares, age 84 of Chadbourn died Friday, July 10, 2009 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter in Whiteville. Final rites will be held Sunday 2:00 p.m. (July 12, 2009) at Chadbourn Presbyterian Church with Reverend Bob Link officiating. Interment will follow in Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. She was the daughter of the late George and Alice Herring White and the widow of Mac McQueen and George Meares. She was the former owner and operator of McQueens 5 & 10 and Meares Service Station in Chadbourn and later was employed by Manns Ladies Shop in Whiteville. She is survived by nieces, Joy W. Allen of Chadbourn, Laura W. Arp of Tabor City, Brenda W. Cawthorne of Whiteville; a nephew, Jeff White of Chadbourn. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Sunday (one hour prior to the service) at the church and at other times at the residence of Dorothy Dot Meares, 605 East 2nd Avenue, Chadbourn, NC 28431.
