Charles Richard Simmons, age 65 of Old Dock died Monday at his residence. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Palmyra Baptist Church with Reverend Tex Floyd and Reverend Wayne Faulk officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. He was the son of the late Joseph Jefferson and Margaret Newell Suggs Simmons. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the Army. He is survived by his wife, Doris Bethke Simmons of the home; two daughters, Sherry S. Long of Old Dock and Cheryl S. Lewis of Old Dock; a sister, Barbara S. Hall of Old Dock; 6 grandchildren, Richard Christopher Long, Caitlin Michelle Long, Amber Danielle Long, Michael Chase Long, Gavin Timothy Lewis, and Riley Newell Lewis.. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn. No service information has been added.
