Charles Richard Horne, 82, of the Oak Dale Community of Whiteville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday (September 3, 2023) at Shoreland Health Care & Retirement Center in Whiteville.
Charles was born on December 6, 1940, in Columbus County, son of the late Simon Horne and Thelma Jane Wells Horne. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three siblings, Oliver Max Horne, Sarah H. Sellers, and Douglas Edward Horne.
Charles honorably served his country in the United States Army; he was a faithful member of Oak Dale Baptist Church. Charles was a retired farmer, and also a retired rural mail carrier for the US Post Office in Whiteville.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday (September 6, 2023) at the Worthington Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Dean Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Dale Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his sister, Doris H. Bordeaux of Leland; nine nieces and nephews, Tim Horne (Angie) of Clarkton, Jane H. Miles (Bob) of Sanford, Owen Michael Sellers of Whiteville, Eva Jane Fipps (Frank) of Kansas, Eddie Horne (Cindy) of Whiteville, Chuck Horne (Rebecca) of Whiteville, Rebecca Nobles (Ashley) of Riegelwood, Chris Bordeaux (Deborah) of Wake Forest, and Shaina Houser (Richard) of Leland.
