Mrs. Cecile Owen Yates, died Thursday, June 25, 2009 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Mrs. Yates was born June 6, 1918 at News Ferry, Halifax County, Virginia, the daughter of John Henry and Alice Burgess Owen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey P. Yates Sr. and by two brothers, John H. Owen, Jr. and Frank W. Owen and one sister Louise Owen Hawker. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 2009 at Piney Forest Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Willard McPherson officiating. She is survived by two sons, Harvey Paul Yates, Jr. of Tucker, GA and Frederick Owen Yates of Greensboro, NC; one brother, Paul B. Owen of Stockbridge GA; and 4 grandchildren, Hollis Patricia Yates of Athens, GA, Reid Taylor Yates of Athens, GA, Caroline Elizabeth Yates of Greensboro, and Kimberly Owen Yates of Greensboro. Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn is in charge of arrangements. No service information has been added.
