Cathy Leigh (Hooks) Cocke

Cathy Cocke smoked her last cigarette on December 3, 2022. She was called home by her Lord and Savior to please come correct the details of the story her husband, B.T., has been telling St. Peter since he arrived at the Pearly Gates in February.

Cathy Leigh Hooks Cocke was born on August 6, 1949 in Columbus County North Carolina, but Chadbourn was no match for her big personality and unique sense of style. She left a trail of rhinestones from Charleston to Birmingham, but she and her husband ultimately settled in Daphne, Alabama, where she stayed home to raise her daughters and collect shoes. Cathy was gregarious and generous, a woman who equally loved getting gussied up for a night on the town and staying home in the comfort of her nightgown. Over the years, you could find her shagging at the Grand Strand, throwing darts and dancing to karaoke at the Yacht Club, and gossiping on the phone in her favorite rocking chair. 

Cathy recently returned home to Chadbourn, where she spent her final year watching British murder mysteries and reconnecting with family and dear friends. She was most content when she had a cigarette in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other, surrounded by the laughter of those she loved. She will be terribly missed. 

Cathy is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Brice “B.T.” Cocke, Jr.; her siblings, James Randall “Randy” Hooks and Susette Neal Hooks; her parents Neal Hooks, Jr. and Connie Hooks Crawford; her step-father, John William Crawford; a host of loyal lapdogs; and a seemingly immortal wood-grain Kenmore microwave oven.

To cherish her memory, Cathy leaves behind two daughters, Carys Davis (Philip) and Ashleigh Cocke(Robert); her grandchildren, Lilah and Wesley Davis; grandcat, Punky Bruiser; and many good friends and hairdressers. To everyone who gave her a ride or ran an errand for her over the years, thank you. May we all be able to share laughter through the tears.

We love you so much.

A service to celebrate Cathy’s life will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Worthington Funeral Home, with Dr. Darrin Moore officiating. 

The family will speak to friends from 4:00-4:45, prior to the service on Saturday.
