Carl Devon Blackman Obituary

Newport News, Va. - Carl Devon Blackman, 87, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2009. He was a native of Whiteville, N.C. and had been a resident of Newport News for 51 years. Mr. Blackman retired from Newport News Shipbuilding as a supervisor after 35 years of service. He was a member of Ivy Farms Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Columbus Memorial Park in Whiteville with Reverend Roy Walker officiating. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Blackman; son, Kenneth Blackman; sisters, Irene Ward and Ruby Hyatt; brothers, Homer, Edwin and L.P. Blackman; and his parents, Missouria and Leon Blackman. Survivors include two daughters, Tamara Bodros and her husband, Alan of Mebane , Michelle Newman and her husband, Benny of Yorktown, VA.; grandchildren, Chris Bodros, Michelle Garner, Lindsey and Justin Newman, Asa, Brandon and Leslie Blackman; and two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Amber Garner. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn. (www.worthingtonfuneralhome.com) No service information has been added.
