Mr. Bobby Earl Hilburn, age 75 of Chadbourn died Friday, July 9, 2010 at Columbus Regional Healthcare System in Whiteville. He was the son of the late Cleveland Hampton and Lou Ella Gause Hilburn. He was preceded in death by seven siblings, David Hilburn, J.V. Hilburn, Bill Hilburn, Leo Hilburn, Dorothy H. Reeves, Isabelle H. Avant and Harley Thomas Hilburn. Mr. Hilburn was a veteran having served in the US Air Force. He was a member of Porter Swamp Baptist Church serving on the Board of Trustees and Deacon. For eighteen years he was Project Manager for the Whiteville Housing Authority until his retirement in 1991. For forty-five years he barbered full time and part time in Chadbourn. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 12, 2010 at Porter Swamp Baptist Church with Reverend Tim Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Porter Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Alice Lee Phelps Hilburn of the home; a daughter, Laura H. Shook and husband, David of Red Springs; a son, Jeffrey S. Hilburn and wife, Lynne of Chadbourn; two sisters Arlene H. Temple of Little Washington and Leona H. Moulsdale of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Bailey Lauren Shook, Morgan Lee Shook and Cory Austin Hilburn. Memorials may be made to the Porter Swamp Baptist Church Building Fund, 8975 Andrew Jackson Hwy. SW, Cerro Gordo, NC 28430. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn. No service information has been added.
