Richard Howard “Snake” Davis, age 76 of Whiteville, entered into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, July 29, 2019 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
Born on April 15, 1943 in Lumberton, Howard was the son of the late Walter Rockwell Davis and Verna Perry Davis. Also, preceding Howard in death are his siblings, Veran Goodyear, Elizabeth Bullock, Edwin Davis.
Funeral services celebrating Mr. Davis’ life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Peace Baptist Church with Pastor Chip Hannah officiating. Masonic rites will follow in the Whiteville Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 Wednesday evening at Peace Baptist Church in Whiteville.
He was a veteran and honorably served his country in the United States Army Reserve. Mr. Davis was Past Master of the Lebanon Masonic Lodge #207 and was a Sudan Shriner and a member of the Sudan Shriner Hillbilly Clan #58. In 1999 he retired from the Department of Transportation, after 37 years of devoted service.
Mr. Davis leaves behind his beloved wife of 53 years, Joyce Ann Baxley Davis; son, Richard Anthony Davis of Florence, SC; siblings, Helen D. Skipper of Lumberton, Betty D. Odum (Buddy) of Lumberton, Sammy Davis (Faye) of Lumberton; two grandchildren, Bryson Aaron Davis and McKenzie Riley Davis.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Crippled Children’s Fund or to Peace Baptist Church in Whiteville.
