Mr. John George Ransom, Jr., age 78 of the Mt. Calvary community in Clarkton, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at Columbus Regional Healthcare System in Whiteville. A native of Columbus County, John was born on March 10, 1941 to the late John George Ransom, Sr. and Callie Thompson Ransom. Also, preceding "Junior" in death was a daughter, Anita Ransom Parker and his grandchild, Blake Parker and three siblings, Billy R. Ransom, Donald D. Ransom and Allen Ransom. "Junior" was a faithful member of Mt. Calvary OFW Baptist Church, and served in various roles in the church.these roles included deacon and usher. Junior was active in the Army National Guard, having served several years. Funeral Services commemorating Mr. Ransoms life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at Worthington Funeral Home with Pastor Heath Conner and Pastor Jimmy McNeill officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Calvary OFW Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00, Wednesday evening at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn. Mr. Ransom leaves behind his beloved wife of 56 years, Murtice Gail Edwards Ransom of the home; a son, Brian Keith Ransom (Amy) of Whiteville; four grandchildren, Ryan Parker (Brandy), Trey Parker, Lincoln Ransom, Tate Ransom; one great-grandchild, Bentley Parker; siblings, Lloyd Ransom (Debbie) of Whiteville, Steve Ransom of Clarkton, Linda Ransom of Clarkton, and Cathy Ivey of Clarkton. Worthington Funeral Home is serving the Ransom family.
