Mr. John Ervin Malpass, age 71 of the Western Prong Community in Whiteville, received his eternal healing on Tuesday Evening, September 10, 2019 at his residence, with his beloved family by his side. A native of Columbus County, John was born on April 15, 1948 to the late Bernice Malpass and Laura Marlowe Malpass. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Danny Malpass. A funeral service commemorating Mr. Malpass life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 13, 2019 at Worthington Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Speight and Pastor Ronnie Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Whiteville Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00, Thursday Evening at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn. Mr. Malpass was a kind and compassionate man, who never met a stranger; he was a dedicated and hard worker, having been employed by Blacks Tire Service in Whiteville for 24 years. Mr. Malpass also proudly served the United States Army for eight years, having served in the Vietnam War. John loved his Lord Jesus Christ and served him faithfully. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, where he was active in many areas. An avid sportsman, Mr. Malpass had a deep love for Whiteville Wolfpack. Survivors include his beloved wife, Sandra Green Malpass of the home; daughter, Michelle Malpass Strickland and her husband, Chris of Whiteville; siblings, Clyde Malpass (Matilda) of Wilmington, Gilbert Collins (Sue) of Lake Waccamaw, Alvin Malpass (Betty) of Mocksville; two grandchildren, John Carter Strickland and Christopher Davis Strickland.
