James Wilbur Barnhill, age 80 of Chadbourn, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Angel House in Whiteville, with family by his side. A native of Columbus County, he was born in July 28, 1938 to the late James Hartford Barnhill and Annie Mae Stewart Barnhill. A Graveside Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Piney Forest Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Bryan Blackwell and Rev. Robin Cox officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00, Tuesday Morning in the Piney Forest Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, prior to the service. Wilbur was employed by National Spinning in Whiteville for 39 years, until his retirement in 2000. He was a lifelong member of the Corinth Baptist Church, where he served in various roles, including a deacon and other church committees. Wilbur was also a member of the Chadbourn Lions Club for 52 years, where he held the positions of President and Secretary-Treasurer. Wilbur farmed for many years and was a member of Woodman of The World. Among all of Mr. Wilburs accomplishments, he was proud to have served his beloved country in the United States Army. Survivors include his beloved wife, Barbara Ann Yates Barnhill of the home; children, Lisa B. West of Chadbourn, Teresa Barnhill of the home; siblings, Edward Barnhill (Jeanette) of Whiteville, Wayne Barnhill (Mary) of Chadbourn; three grandchildren, Ken West (LaSande), Krystal Cartrette (James), Katlin West (Justin); three great-grandchildren, Taylor West, Ayden Lucas, & Johnathan West; 6 Nieces & Nephews, 10 Great-Nieces & Nephews, 3 Great-Great Nieces & Nephews. Wilbur also leaves behind a special Aunt & Uncle, Mildred & Lynwood Stephenson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be addressed to Lower Cape Fear Angel House or Corinth Baptist Church. Worthington Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
