Eloise Bass Obituary

Eloise was born March 14, 1932, in Columbus County, to the late Mable Skipper Gore and C. Alpheus Gore. Eloise graduated from Whiteville High School in 1950. She furthered her education at Greensboro Community College. A retired account, she formerly worked with United States Supply Company of Charlotte, North Carolina. She was an active member of Smyrna Baptist Church and was active in various churches where she and her family lived. She held many positions at Smyrna as a Young Lady, Treasurer, Secretary, Teacher, assistant teacher, Nominating Committee member, Vacation Bible School participant, and WMU Director, a position she held for eighteen years. Her active community service includes WMU Council for Columbus County, Columbus County Literacy Council Board of Directors, Women on Mission; she served on the planning committee for the Literacy Prayer Breakfast for many years. In addition, Eloise was a Bridge player with the Bridge Club of Chadbourn. An active member of the ECA Extension Club, she held various offices in the organization. She devoted many community hours helping various offices in the organization. She devoted many community hours helping with the Strawberry Festival Encounters and volunteering for the Waccamaw Bank Appreciation Day where she served hot dogs and condiments to customers. This was all fun for Eloise due to her kind nature of helping others. She was a member of the Womans Club of Pennsylvania, the Golf Ladies League of Greensboro-High Point, and the Gold Ladies of Galen Hall, Pennsylvania. She also played golf in Reading, Pennsylvania. Eloise loved friends and enjoyed talking; she was a friendly, humble and lovely person. She provided transportation for individuals for doctor/medical appointments to Duke Hospital, Chapel Hill, Fayetteville, Lumberton, Wilmington and Pinehurst. She also gave comfort and support in ones in need. Eloise enjoyed many trips with her daughter, Nancy, who loved hosting "Mother/Daughter" time. Eloise enjoyed time with her son Tracy, Jr., eating out, shopping and playing golf. She is survived by her husband, Tracy P. "Pat" Bass, Sr. of the home; her daughter, Nancy Bass Adams and husband, Yewell of Virginia; her son, Tracy P. Bass, Jr. of the home; brother, Lloyd "Bud" Gore of Whiteville; nieces, Stephanie Hyatt Crude and husband, Steve, Jennifer Martin and husband, Andy; nephew, Stan Hyatt and wife, Maria. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm Monday, October 21, 2019 at Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Phil Richardson and Reverend Merle Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service on Monday at Worthington Funeral Home.
