Doris Elois Stephens Bass, age 92 of the Smyrna community of Whiteville passed on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Lifecare Center in Whiteville. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Smyrna Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Ray Best officiating. Friends and family are welcome to visit at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Lora Purvis Stephens and Normie "NM" Stephens. She was the widow of Billie Elbert Bass and was also preceded in death by an infant child, Ronald H. Bass; four siblings, Veatus S. Goins, Genair Stephens, Mitchell Stephens and Merle S. Baxley. To cherish her memories, she leaves four children, Judy B. Petteway and her husband, Lee of Whiteville, Vivian B. Herring and her husband, Mel of Whiteville, Rodney E. Bass and his wife, Candace of Satsuma, AL and Sherri B. Worrell and her husband, Larry of North Myrtle Beach, SC; a brother, William Taft Stephens of Fayetteville; ten grandchildren, Jeremy Herring (Regina), Josh Herring (Amy), Jesse Campbell (Todd), Travis Bass, Madison Bass, Trint Harvell (Keri), Naomi Thompson (Cory), Jody Vieau (Renee), Amber Bivens and Brian Worrell (Kate); fifteen great-grandchildren, Alexa Herring, Jacob Herring, Bryce Herring, Olivia Herring, Lillie Herring, Jackson Campbell, Caroline Campbell, Cami Thompson, Anna Bivens, Sophie Bivens, Abigail Worrell, Annabelle Worrell, Ewan Worrell, Jon Vieau and Coda Vieau.
