Cyrus Eugene Worthington

Cyrus Eugene Worthington, age 87 of Whiteville went to be with his Lord on Friday, November 24, 2017 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Lifecare Center in Whiteville. Final rites will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Whiteville United Methodist Church with Reverend Paul Stallsworth officiating. Interment will follow in Whiteville Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1:00 3:00 pm (two hours prior to the service) Sunday at the church. He was a member of Whiteville United Methodist Church and honorably served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was employed by the Whiteville School System as an Industrial Technology instructor at Whiteville High School for 22 years, retiring 1991. Gene was a member of the Whiteville Kiwanis Club. He was the son of the late Otho Hilton and Mamie Summersett Worthington and was also preceded in death by five siblings, Milton Worthington, Hilton Worthington, Warren Worthington, Miriam W. Horton and Kenneth Worthington. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 62 years, Annie Reeves Worthington of the home; his son, Gregory E. Worthington (Carolyn) of Cerro Gordo; his daughter, Janet W. Pecorella (Salvatore) of Matthews; a sister, Virginia W. Bryant of Stedman; four grandchildren, Jared H. Worthington (Katie), Sal Pecorella (Karissa), Benjamin E. Worthington (Anna Grace) and Anna P. Renee (Anthony); two great-grandchildren, Camden Worthington and Camillo Pecorella. Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn is serving the family.
