Burvin Hooks

Mr. Burvin Wade Hooks, age 83 of Whiteville, was welcomed into his Heavenly home on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at his residence, with family by his side. Mr. Hooks was born on February 17, 1936 to Wade Hilton Hooks and Ila Jane Evers Hooks and was preceded in death by six siblings, Virginia H. Simmons, Louise Todd, Eleanor Heustess, Carl 'Buddy' Hooks, Stanley Hooks and D.J. Hooks. He was a loving, compassionate, witty, and dedicated man who was devoted to his faith and family. He honorably served his country in the United States Army. Mr. Hooks was the store manager for Pierce and Company in Hallsboro for 42 years until his retirement. He was an avid Dale Earnhardt NASCAR fan for many years and handcrafted unique bird feeders which he sold throughout the area. He had a special love for spending time in the mountains. He was an active member of Mount Olive Original Free Will Baptist Church in Whiteville, and had served as a deacon since 1970. He also served as chairman of the Election Committee of Brunswick Electric. He had a passion for farming and helping many farmers in the area to be more successful. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at Worthington Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Tommy Bryson officiating. Interment will follow in the Flynn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening, at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn. Survivors include his beloved wife, Annabelle Singletary Hooks of the home; children, Sherry Hooks Vickers (Wayne) and Pamela Hooks Fowler (Chucky) all of Whiteville, brothers, Tommy Hooks (Linda) of Chadbourn and Marshall Hooks (Shelvy) of Hallsboro; grandchildren, Bryan Wade Fowler (Ashley), Emily Ann Fowler Reecer (Myles), Lindsey Vickers Chattin (Scott) and Eric Vickers; great-grandchildren, Bailey Fowler, Daniel Fowler and Walden Chattin. Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn is serving the family.
